While waiting in line for an oil change about 8 a.m. Aparna Bankston, 30, of Ann Arbor noticed a female Mallard duck running through the parking lot with seven of her ducklings in tow.
The mother duck was distressed—and wouldn’t leave even when someone attempted to shoo the duck away.
Bankston heard high-pitched quacking coming from the storm sewer in the middle of the parking lot at the business.
“I thought, wouldn’t it be weird and kind of crazy if her ducklings were in the drain?” Bankston said.
And there they were—three baby ducks sitting about three feet underground in the sewer.
Valvoline technician Seth Staples lifted off the storm grate and store manager Adam Fowler grabbed a colander.
Laying on his stomach, Fowler stretched his arm to the bottom of the storm sewer and used the colander to scoop the ducklings out, one by one. […] ” – Amy Biolchini | email@example.com
